What is Web Site?
A Web site or website or site is a collection of web pages. A website is hosted on web server and accessed via a network such as the Internet or a private Local Area Network (LAN) through a unique internet address (URL or Uniform Resource Locator). Every web site contains a home page or main page. This is the first document users see when they enter the site. A web site might also contain additional pages which called subpage. Every site is owned and managed by an individual, organization or company.

A website is hosted on a computer server known as a web server or HTTP server. It contains all the necessary applications. The web server receives the HTTP request from the visitors of the Website and delivered the required output as Web pages to the requesting visitors.

History of Web Site
In 1990, British physicist Tim Berners-Lee creates the World Wide Web (WWW) at CERN. CERN was the European Organization for Nuclear Research based in Geneva, Switzerland. In August 6, 1991 Tim published the first ever website. The first web site describes about the World Wide Web project, how to set up a web server, how to create web sites. The URL of the first web pageis “http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html”.

Types of Web site
Based on design or development mechanism a web site is two types. A web site can be either static or dynamic:

1. Static Website
   In static website the contents or layout of the web pages is not changed with every request of the same page. When a page is loaded, it looks the same. This type of website displays the same information to all clients/visitors. Generally this type of websites is developed with HTML, CSS. The contents and layout will be changed only when the website owner/authority updates them with a text editor or HTML editor tools. These websites are faster than dynamic websites.
2. Dynamic Website
   In dynamic website the contents or layout of the web pages is changed with every request of the same page. The changes depend on several criteria like: user status, request, geographical locations, time, and other factors. Same page can display different information for different users/visitors. This type of web sites are built with the combination of numerous web technology (HTML, CSS, Scripting Language, different programing language, database, etc.). These websites are slower than static websites.

At present website is the most important media for information exchanging. A web site can represent an organization or personal opinion easily. But it has some security and privacy related issues. We should consider that issue during web development.
